Artists statement

J.M Almqvist explores the subconscious through film photography. In the dimensions between light and darkness, this journey strives for the unseen within the layers of what our mind perceives and what is lost. As with a film negative, the work is seen as a living thing as the film reacts to objects around us. The work is generally focused on creating with new life, mostly by destroying what is precious and to reincarnate and bring forth the negatives’ inner selves. A constant journey through layers, seeking out our inner beings for a glimpse into what divides our choices and our needs, with the intent to grow into our most whole creation.
